Managing and your data

There are many new disciplines in the data management practice area that helped an organization get control around their data. These disciplines include business intelligence, master data management, and data governance. We have learned a lot about these from the data governance blog and the master data management blog.
In practice, date governance helps bring the organization together to put rules, controls, and standard definitions around data that is used by everyone. Data governance is generally made up of a council which includes a data governance program manager as well as data analysts working on the project. Data governance helps ensure that everyone is using data in the same way and that data of used is kept to a minimum.
Master data management, and MDM Architecture, helps to identify a subset of the organization?s data that is considered to be the most critical. Once this subset of data is identified, meticulous work is done to ensure that it is of the highest quality possible and that it is very difficult to corrupt the data.
All of these data management disciplines help organizations keep their data clean.
